You there boy, what day is it? Saturday! Why there’s still time! The spirits were as good as their word!
Yes, it’s been a couple of weeks but that doesn’t mean the retro news has stopped flowing. We just blame unseasonable haunts from keeping us away from the keyboard. Let’s get you caught up on all the latest, shall we?
Brick by Brick
LEGO has already graced us with one of the best small versions of the greatest car ever: the 1985 Lamborghini Countach 5000. Now they’re releasing a 1,506-brick version with working scissor doors, a frunk, and a detailed custom Quattrovalvole engine. Available on July 1 for LEGO Insiders for $179.
Need a classic Bumblebee to go with your LEGO Optimus Prime? You’re in luck, it looks like the company will soon be revealing a G1-inspired VW Beetle version of everyone’s favorite plucky bot!
And if you’re looking for even more retro brick goodness to support, you should definitely head over to the LEGO IDEAS site and throw your vote on this amazing Thundercats Ultimate Thundertank set for a chance to see it produced.
Retrofied Roundup
Have you been keeping an eye on RetrofiedMag.com? If not, you might’ve missed these fine stories…
Last week, our venerable founder, Preston Burt, penned a touching feature about love, loss, memory, and the band that binds it all together.
This week, Manhaz Dar gave us an insightful look at the double-edged sword of nostalgia as she takes you to Your Next Stop, The Nostalgia Zone.
Come on Down!
Pat Sajak has suffered through his last contestant buying a vowel on the clue “Children’s Book: G_ _NIGHT M__N.” The infinitely patient host of “Wheel of Fortune” has retired after over 40 years and 8,000+ shows.
Hands up if you remember being stuck sick at home, lying on the couch in a feverish haze, and watching Bob Barker ask contestants to “Come on down!” as they played Plinko or price guessing games to win such stately modern conveniences as satellite dishes and Oldsmobiles. Now you can relive classic “The Price is Right” episodes again on Buzzr. You’ll have to supply your own lime Gatorade and Saltines, though.
Speaking of Gatorade, be prepared to see modern athletes sweating out day-glo colors as the brand revives its most iconic 90s ads.
Coming to a Theater Near You
Can’t Hardly Wait for a 4K version of this classic movie? Well you’re in luck. It’s coming on August 20th (keep an eye out for more on this one).
Excellent! Bill and Ted’s Most Triumphant Trilogy is being released in remastered 4K UHD as a 6-disc box set on August 6th. Righteous.
Also coming on August 20th, The Last Unicorn is getting re-released in 4K UHD.
I’m not going to tell you what to do with your time, but the trailer for Deer Camp ‘86 is about all you really need to see of this campy horror flick.
Hey all you Crichton fans (no, not the Jurassic Park guy, the other Crichton)—BOOM! Studios and the Jim Henson Company are publishing a special Farscape 25th Anniversary Special one shot!
Do you miss friendly couples banter and cheesy jokes with your TV movies? You’re in luck. Jason Biggs and Jenny Mollen are hosting an all new version of Dinner and a Movie on TBS.
Retrorrata
Looking to upgrade your digs? Both Paul Ruebens’ (aka Pee-Wee Herman) vintage-themed abode and the house from Home Alone are up for grabs!
Thinking about the Brat Pack after the announcement of the upcoming documentary? Andrew McCarthy penned a piece for the New York Times as he looks back at that storied era.
Creed might be cool again but at least we can all agree on one thing: Nickelback still sucks.
If you live in the Orlando area, the Universal Tribute Store is now open for business! This year’s ‘80s theme brings us a movie theater, arcade, and video rental store. It’s not to be missed.
Waiting for Analogue Pocket to come back in stock so you can relive those good ol’ days of retro mobile gaming? Why wait? The original five MEGA MAN Game Boy games are available right now on Nintendo Switch Online!
